Microneedling

Dramatically Change Your Skin

The primary appeal of microneedling is its ability to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, which is the key to new, youthful-looking skin. With its ability to trigger the generation of new skin cells, just a few sessions of microneedling can noticeably improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars on the face and body. Downtime is minimal, making the microneedling, especially when adding the PRP benefit, a convenient alternative to traditional facial peels and laser treatments that may take several days to recover.

At Constantine Cosmetic Surgery, we choose to use the SkinPen® which is a medical grade, state-of-the-art microneedling device. Although there are other microneedling products on the market, the SkinPen is the only treatment cleared by the FDA.

FAQs

How it works

Microneedling creates tiny micro-injuries to the skin by the use of a pen-like device. These micro-injuries, called “channels,” rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin in the skin, forcing the skin into its own healing process. This results in fresh, new, healthy skin. The treatment stimulates your skin’s natural ability to repair itself.

What is PRP?

This add-on and beneficial therapy is called PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). PRP is produced from an individual’s own blood. A blood sample is obtained from a patient, before the microneedle treatment is done. The vial of blood is put into a machine that separates the PRP from the blood while your microneedle treatment is completed.

What are the benefits of PRP?

PRP contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors and other cytokines that promote the regeneration process of soft tissues. The PRP is applied directly to the channels that were created from the micro-needling to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of collagen.

Dr. Constantine also uses PRP therapy during surgeries to help aid in post-operative healing.

How long does it take?

The SkinPen device is very versatile in order to cover all areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. The actual procedure typically takes 30 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated and the severity of damage to the skin. An additional 15 minutes is needed if PRP therapy is added to your treatment.

Does it hurt?

Don’t let the word “needle” scare you! This therapy is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment with quick recovery time. The pen contains tiny, microneedles because of this, microneedling is surprisingly comfortable. There are different depths of the microneedle device, obviously, with increased depth, there may be additional discomfort – and benefit. We do offer a topical numbing cream to help make you as comfortable as possible.

Is there any downtime?

There is little-to-no downtime with microneedling. Skin will likely appear red immediately after the treatment—similar to a sunburn. The redness usually subsides in a day or two. We recommend keeping the face as clean as possible for 24-hours but makeup can be worn hours post-treatment. We do recommend that you stay out of the sun for at least two weeks prior and post-treatment and always wear sunscreen as with any aesthetic treatments.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments depends on your particular goals and area of the body you are focusing on. A series of 3-4 for the face is typically recommended for most patients, scars and stretch marks may take 6 sessions. Appointments are spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.

When should I see results?

Your body’s collagen production usually takes about 4-8 weeks, so you will continue to see improvements over this time. Typically visible results are seen within 2-6 weeks and completing the recommended amount of sessions will give you the best outcome. Each treatment typically performed 4-6 weeks apart, dependent on the area and skin type being treated.
